What is Microsoft® FrontPage®?
Microsoft® FrontPage® allows you to design your web pages on your computer with
the use of their easy to use editor. Once you have created your web site on your
computer, it allows you to publish your site to our server in one easy step. You
never have to use FTP. It also has some other handy features that help you create
your web site. To find out more, visit http://www.microsoft.com/frontpage.
Does ProHosting support my version of Microsoft® FrontPage®?
ProHosting supports the following versions of Microsoft® FrontPage®:
FrontPage® XP/2003
FrontPage® 2002
FrontPage® 2000
FrontPage® 98
FrontPage® 97
as well as all of the features we offer to UNIX hosting.
How do I use Microsoft® FrontPage® to upload my web pages?
If you chose to have Microsoft® FrontPage® server extensions installed, you will
be able to publish your web pages to our server very easily. Once you have finished
creating your web site on your local hard drive, you will need to follow these
steps to publish them to our server.
Step 1 - Open the FrontPage® Explorer.
Step 2 - Select File, then Publish Frontpage web
Step 3 - Click on the More Webs button
Step 4 - In the space provided type either your IP address or your hostname(www.your_domain.com,
or your_name.prohosting.com) Then click on the Ok button.
Step 5 - Push the Ok button once again.
Step 6 - It will prompt you for your username and password. Enter them,
select Ok, and then let it publish. It could take anywhere from 5 minutes to a
few hours depending on how big your web is.
What if I didn't choose to install FrontPage® extensions when I
signed up?
If you didn't choose to have them installed, then you will
have to email support@prohosting.com
to request that they be added. There is no fee for adding FrontPage® extensions
at any time. Please make sure you include your domain name whenever you request
support from ProHosting.
Are Microsoft® Publisher and Microsoft® FrontPage® the same thing?
No. FrontPage® requires it's extensions installed on our server. Publisher uses
a regular FTP connection and is just a more user friendly way of programming in
HTML, whereas FrontPage® uses it's own type of File Transfer Protocol and requires
extensions to allow it to do so.
How do I add FrontPage® extensions to my sub-domain?
Step
1 - Open FrontPage®
Step 2 - Select FILE | NEW | WEB.
Step 3 - When the box comes up, highlight ONE PAGE WEB
Step 4 - Then, look on the right side of the main box, you'll see a text
box with a URL in it, above the text box it says: SPECIFY THE LOCATION OF THE
NEW WEB: This is where you would type the ROOT DOMAIN in, with the name of the
directory the sub-domain or domain alias is in, eg. http://your_domain.com/example.com
example.com being the directory that your sub-domain or domain alias is in. Then
push OK.
Step 5 - It will probably ask you if you would like to overwrite the index.html
file there already, say No.
Step 6 - It will then create the sub-web and add the FrontPage extensions.
It could take some time.
Step 7 - When you want to edit the files in your sub-web, make sure you
open your sub-web and not your root web. Otherwise it will try and use the extensions
from the root web and cause problems.
