How do I register a new domain name?

If you sign up with ProHosting, and you don't currently have a domain name, we'll handle the domain registration for you. If you do, see the section on Modifying your Domain Name.

If you would like to handle domain registration yourself, you're welcome to, otherwise, we'll use the information submitted on our order form to register your domain name.

We charge $18.00 to register a domain name for one year. That is more than $10/year less than Network Solutions!

How much does ProHosting charge to handle domain name registration?

ProHosting.com charges USD $18.00 for domain name registration. We can also help you modify your domain to point to our DNS servers at no cost.

What are the restrictions on the characters my domain can contain?

Valid characters for a domain name are the following:

The letters A-Z
The numbers 0-9
The - character(dash)

!(exclamation points) and _ (underscores) are not allowed.

How long does it take to register a new domain name?

We can have your domain name registered within 24-48 hours.

If it has been longer than 48 hours since you signed up with us, and your domain still doesn't work, please contact support.

How do I transfer an existing domain name to work with ProHosting?

To make your domain work with your ProHosting account you need to make sure that your domain points to the following name servers:

Primary Server Hostname: NS1.DNS-SOLUTIONS.NET
Primary Server Address: 208.87.135.150
Secondary Server Hostname: NS2.DNS-SOLUTIONS.NET
Secondary Server Address: 69.160.95.4

There are many different organizations which allow you to register a domain name. Your domain will need to be modified through same organization it was registered. The procedure for modifying a domain at each of these different registrars will vary. If you are un-sure where your domain name was registered, ProHosting will be glad to help you transfer your domain to our servers. How long does it take to modify an existing domain?

Depending on the registrar used to register your domain name originally, the time to modify an existing domain name can vary.

When a domain modification is accepted, something called domain propagation needs to take place.

Before a transfer takes place, the "Internet" knows where your domain name is, and remembers it. This is referred to as caching. When your domain name is modified, the "Internet" will still remember your domain name, and direct traffic to where it was previously hosted. The cache will eventually expire, and the "Internet" will start finding your domain name in the correct location. This process can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 7 days, but in most cases, it takes 24-48 hours. This time will also be different for each ISP, so someone connecting through a different ISP than you may be able to see your domain name before you can, or visa versa.
